چکیده

Aims. The goal of this study is to analyze the H i supershell GS 121–05–037 and its role in triggering star formation. Methods. To characterize supershell, we analyzed 21-cm line far-infrared emission distributions. In addition, formation processes related 121-05-037, used Gaia survey, together with spectrophotometric calculations, derived a method look for massive OB–type stars. Results. characterization shows an expanding structure centered at ( l , b ) ~ (121°.3, −4°.8) velocity range from −47.8 −25.2km s −1 . It located 3.2 ± 1.0 kpc Sun has kinetic energy E k = (2.1 1.3) × 10 50 erg. 121 −05−037 presents, distribution, open morphology toward Galactic halo. analysis IR reveals presence 32 ii regions seen projected into borders 121–05–037. A ionizing stars these that 12 them would be similar distance Conclusions. relative location between regions, their age difference, led us conclude could have been created due expansion supershell. On other hand, on interface two or more supershells originated collision structures. Finally, –05–037 halo suggests large chimney.

The New Frontier: Galactic–Scale Star Formation

The arena of investigation of star formation and its scaling laws is slowly, but consistently, shifting from the realm of luminous galaxies to that of faint ones and to sub–galactic regions, as existing and new facilities enable investigators to probe regions of the combined parameter space of surface brightness, wavelength, and angular resolution that were inaccessible until a few years ago. W...

A new determination of supernova rates and a comparison with indicators for galactic star formation

We have computed new estimates of the local rates of supernovae (SNe) adding the updated log of Evans’ visual search to our SN search database. In this way, we have accumulated the largest SN statistics ever assembled for this purpose. The new SN rates are corrected on an empirical basis for the bias in the inner regions of galaxies and that in inclined spirals. We also tested an alternative ap...

Star Formation Histories of the Galactic Satellites

Late accretion models for formation of the Galactic halo require that many Galactic satellite galaxies have been cannibalised into the halo field. Comparison of the metallicity and age distribution function of stars in the surviving satellites with the apparently exclusively old stars in the field halo can constrain the importance of any such process. We have developed a new objective technique...

The influence of star clusters on galactic disks: new insights on star-formation in galaxies

Stars form in embedded star clusters which play a key role in determining the properties of a galaxy’s stellar population. A large fraction of newly born massive stars are shot out from dynamically unstable embedded-cluster cores spreading them to large distances before they explode. Embedded clusters blow out their gas once the feedback energy from the new stellar population overcomes its bind...
